Located in Middlesex County, Cambridge is a major suburb of Boston rich in a culture of education, the arts and innovation. The city is comprised of 6 major squares (Harvard, Kendal, Central, Porter, Inman, and Lechmere) among 13 total squares, all very different neighborhoods hosting a diverse mix of retail, dining and cultural outlets making each unique yet reflective of the diversity of the city. Notables are both the rich academic and architectural characteristics of Harvard Square that is home to Harvard Yard and its namesake university, and Kendall Square (adjacent to MIT and the Charles River) that has been called "the most innovative square mile on the planet" owing to the high concentration of successful startups that have emerged in the vicinity of the square since 2010. Cambridge sits North of Boston across the famed Charles River that hosts the “Head of the Charles” international regatta every Fall. The city is connected to Boston via the Commuter Rail, Green Line (C train), Red Line, and buses of the MBTA, and by various bridges over the Charles River.
